2016 has been a very busy year from Social Anxiety Ireland (SAI) and much appreciation is due to all those volunteers who helped us get to where we are now.

In December 2015, we achieved Company status with the Company Registration Office (CRO) and then over the next twelve months we successfully managed to satisfy the Charity Regulatory Authority (CRA) and were registered as an official charity in December 2016.

Over the year we lost two directors from our board and we wish to thank them for all their hard work and support. We therefore have room for an additional two directors – so if anyone is interested PLEASE let us know. We are particularly interested in getting someone who might have experience as a company secretary?
At our last AGM, we agreed to open SAI to membership. It will give one a voice and voting rights at our AGM. So, if interested, again, please contact us.

We have also petitioned and have had discussions with the HSE re the ongoing viability of our charity. CHO9 area of the HSE have been most helpful in this regard and together we have submitted a funding application to the Department of Health. If we are successful in this, then we will be able to reduce our suggestion contributions and offer more programme. We have already lined up a few experience clinician’s to ‘train up’ to offer our group treatment programmes. This is so important as our waiting list is now well over two years!

Finally, we are now in a position to restart our support group – this traditional was reserved as a kind of follow-up care for our group participants. However, we have decided to offer this support group to anyone on our waiting list. We have got an experienced clinician to facilitate it and it will commence on APRIL 6th 2017 in our offices in 8 Cabra Road, Phibsboro, Dublin 7.

We intend to offer this support group on the 1st & 3rd Thursday of every month. If you are planning to join us, please contact us to let us know. Odhran Mc Carthy will facilitate this first support group.
    That’s all for now.

Hi just wondering which days/weeks the support group runs, and is this also available for those waiting on the list for treatment? I couldn’t find anything about this on the website.

The support group is certainly up and running again – after a period of absence – and happens twice a month. So, they are held in our premises (8 New Cabra Road, Phibsboro, Dublin) on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. They start at 6pm and finish at 8pm. They are now facilitated by an experience d counselling psychologist.
